Brande in Australië

(relatief gesproke?). Die bevolking is nie só groot nie? As piromane in alle bevolkings verspreid is moet daar mos oral brande uitbreek? Nee, daar moet 'n ander verklaring wees.

So who are the arsonists, and what drives them?

The Home Office's Arson Scoping Study defines four primary motivations: youth disorder and nuisance; malicious; psychological; and criminal. The first covers vandalism, boredom and thrill-seeking. In Britain, it accounts for 80% of all cases and is generally spur-of-the-moment, targeting empty property such as schools or abandoned cars.

"Pyromania is an impulse to deliberately start fires to relieve tension and typically includes gratification or relief afterward. Pyromania is distinct from arson, and pyromaniacs are also distinct from those who start fires because of psychosis, for personal, monetary or political gain, or for acts of revenge. Pyromaniacs start fires to induce euphoria, and often tend to fixate on institutions of fire control like fire stations and firefighters."

Of dalk phonomanie? Ek vermoed 'n verskeidenheid van oorsake. Wat van "an inordinate desire to be recognized and acknowledged."

"The issue of deliberate firesetting is a growing concern in Australia. Every hour of every day in Australia at least one arson fire is lit and this type of criminal behaviour is costing the country over $157m annually in property losses alone. Although much has been written on the subject of arson there remains substantial confusion about the nature and extent of pyromania within the arsonist population."

Australia is the most fire-prone continent and country on Earth. While fire is an essential component of many ecosystems, a natural instrument for maintaining biodiversity and hence a tool that enables many species to survive, not all fires are natural or beneficial.

Volgens statistiek (Bryant 2008):

Although the analysis was carried out on an agency and state/territory basis, the availability of national fire data allows some conclusions to be drawn on the proportion of deliberate fires Australia-wide. It was found that the proportion of vegetation fires that were deliberate varies between agencies and regions, as well as across time of day and time of year. However, on average across the country, approximately 13 percent of vegetation fires are recorded as being deliberate and another 37 percent as suspicious. That is, for all vegetation fires for which there is a cause recorded, 50% may be lit deliberately.
-Australian Institute of Criminology

Nou wonder ek hoekom sou Australië so ‘n hoë persentasie van opsetlike brandstigting hê??

Hehe Liza!

Piromanie is 'n sielkundige versteuring.

Ek dog alles in Australië is perfek.
